The Tölzer Hütte (1,825 m) sits on a broad saddle between the Schafreuter (2,102 m) and the Delpsjoch in the Vorkarwendel, the north-eastern part of the Karwendel range. Although it stands on Austrian (Tyrolean) soil just south of the German border, it is owned and run by the Bad Tölz section of the German Alpine Club (DAV Sektion Tölz), which first built it in 1922–1924 and comprehensively renovated it in 2019–2020. The hut is best known as the classic base for climbing the Schafreuter, one of the finest panoramic summits above the Isar valley, and for its sweeping views across the Karwendel and the Bavarian foothills. Staffed from mid-May to mid-October (snow permitting), it offers around 73 sleeping places — roughly 35 in bedrooms and 38 in traditional dormitories (Matratzenlager) — together with regional cooking; a small winter room sleeping four stays open when the hut is closed. Most walkers approach on the Leckbachweg from the Leckbach trailhead on the toll road between Vorderriß and Hinterriß, a moderate climb of about 2.5 hours and roughly 900 m of ascent. Longer routes lead up from Fall on the Sylvenstein reservoir. Its accessibility and family-friendly main path make it a popular Karwendel destination.
