Venetalm

Venetalm sits at 1,980m in the Zillertal valley, a working farm that doubles as a hikers' shelter. Reach it from Mayrhofen in the Zillertal by hiking 2.5 hours up the Übergangsteig (marked trail 502). The route climbs steadily through forest, then alpine pasture, with no major scrambling. Most hikers approach from the north via the Stillup Valley trailhead, which adds 30 minutes to the ascent. The hut lies on the long-distance Zillertal High Trail and works as a rest stop or overnight base for traverses toward the Ahornspitze or into the Rastkogel massif.
This is simple accommodation on a working alm. The farm offers around 30 beds in basic dormitory rooms and a few doubles. Meals focus on hearty local food—schnitzel, spätzle, fresh dairy from the farm itself. Water and power are basic; expect no shower. The hut operates year-round, though check ahead for winter closures. It's family-friendly and sees frequent foot traffic from day-hikers refueling rather than staying overnight.
Book directly with the farmer well ahead during peak season (July–August). Contact via phone or email to confirm beds and meal service; credit cards aren't always accepted, so bring cash in euros. The hut gets busy on weekends and during school holidays. October and April are quietest. The farm doesn't take online bookings—phone calls work best.
