Galflun Alm

Galflun Alm sits at 1960m in the Zillertal, accessible from the village of Mayrhofen. The standard approach takes 2.5 hours from Mayrhofen via the Zillertal trail, gaining 900m steadily through larch forest. An alternative route climbs from Zell am Ziller in about 3 hours. The hut works as a day-trip destination for valley walkers or as a stage on longer Zillertal tours. The surrounding terrain offers easy ridge walks and scrambles toward Zillerkogel (2453m).
Galflun Alm is a traditional dairy working farm that welcomes hikers year-round except November. The hut sleeps around 30 people in a mix of dormitory and smaller rooms. Meals focus on hearty Tyrolean fare and dairy products from the alm's own production. The owner runs the operation genuinely as a working alpine dairy, not primarily as a hut business, which shapes its character. WiFi is absent by design. Simple but clean toilet and washroom facilities serve guests. Summer crowds peak in July and August, particularly on weekends.
Book ahead during peak season—contact the hut directly by phone or email. The road access via a mountain road makes it drivable for those unable to hike, though most visitors arrive on foot. Groups should reserve at least one week in advance for July and August. Off-season visits outside the November closure require minimal booking.
