Fiderepasshütte

Fiderepasshütte sits at 2067m on the Fiderenpass between Vorarlberg and Bavaria. Reach it from the Schröcken valley in 2.5 hours from the valley floor via the Fiderenalpe. The approach crosses open alpine terrain with steady elevation gain. From Oberstdorf on the German side, allow 3 hours from Gerstruben. Either route is straightforward and well-marked. The hut works as a through-point on longer ridge traverses or as a base for day walks across the Appenzell Alps.
The DAV-managed hut has 80 beds in mixed dormitories. Half-board is standard; the kitchen serves simple, solid food. Showers are available, a rarity at this elevation. There's no WiFi. The hut operates year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and requires avalanche awareness. Managed by DAV Sektion Oberstdorf, it attracts both day-trippers and overnight guests on structured hiking routes.
Book by phone directly with the hut. Summer weekends fill quickly, particularly July and August—call at least 4 weeks ahead. Easter and Pentecost weekends are also busy. Winter visitors should confirm access conditions before heading up. The hut can advise on weather stability and snow coverage for your planned dates.
