Mindelheimer Hut

Mindelheimer Hütte sits at 2,058m in the Allgäu Alps on the border between Vorarlberg and Bavaria. Reach it from Oberstdorf on the German side via the Kemptner Hütte route (6–7 hours) or from the Vorarlberg side via Schröcken (4–5 hours). Both approaches are well-marked but gain significant elevation; start early and plan for stream crossings if snow is melting. The hut sits on the main ridge, making it a logical stop for multi-day traverses between the Tannheim Valley and Oberallgäu.
The DAV Sektion Mindelheim runs this 80-bed hut from June to September. Half-board (bed, breakfast, dinner) costs around €75–85 per person. The kitchen serves traditional Allgäu food; you can request packed lunches. Showers are available. There's no WiFi, so disconnect properly. Dorm rooms dominate, with a few doubles. Water comes from mountain springs; the hut is self-sufficient without road access.
Contact the hut directly by phone to book—they take reservations from the previous November onwards. July and August fill rapidly; book 4–6 weeks ahead for these months. June and September are quieter. The hut closes most years by late September. Confirm opening dates each season.
