Fraßenhütte

Fraßenhütte sits at 1725m in the Appenzell Alps on the Vorarlberg side of the Austrian-Swiss border. Reach it from Dalaas via the Große Lücke pass trail—a steady 3-hour ascent through mixed forest and alpine meadow. The hut works as a base for ridge walking toward Säntis or as a waypoint on longer traverses across the northern limestone plateaus.

The hut sleeps around 30 guests in simple shared rooms. Meals focus on hearty Austrian fare; half-board (overnight, dinner, breakfast) runs roughly €50–60 per person. The kitchen handles vegetarian requests with advance notice. You'll find a wood stove in the common room, basic washing facilities, and an outhouse—expect Alpine accommodation, not a hotel. There's no WiFi, so bring paper maps and a clear head. The hut opens from May through October, with reduced capacity outside summer weekends.
