About

The Gerachhaus sits at 1550m in the Garsellen Valley east of Schruns in Vorarlberg. Reach it from Schruns (610m) in 3.5 hours via the Garsellen Valley trail, a steady uphill hike on good paths through mountain pasture. From the Silvretta High Alpine Road at Silvretta Stausee you can make it in 2 hours. The hut works as a base for walking the Silvretta region, particularly routes toward the Vermunt Lakes and the high passes linking Vorarlberg to Graubünden.
The OeAV-run hut has 60 bed spaces in mixed and private rooms. Meals are standard Alpine fare—good soups, hot mains, local cheeses. The kitchen supplies packed lunches if you order ahead. Water comes from a spring. The hut opens mid-June through September and closes in bad weather. Winter access is possible but rarely reliable without skis. Cell reception is poor; carry a paper map.
Book from late April onward for July and August weekends. Contact the OeAV directly or reserve through their online system. Weekdays are quiet even in peak season. The hut fills quickly during school holidays and in fine weather windows mid-summer, so don't assume walk-in availability in July.
