Naturfreundehaus Feldkircher Hut

The Naturfreundehaus Feldkircher Hütte sits at 1,628m in the Appenzell Alps near Feldkirch in Vorarlberg's eastern edge. Reach it from Feldkirch town (20km south) in 3.5 hours via the Ill Valley and Satteins, or approach from the Säntis massif to the north. The hut serves as a base for ridge walks across the Säntis group and day trips into neighbouring St. Gallen canton in Switzerland. Trail connections lead east to Schäfler (2,040m) and southwest toward the Fläscher Joch.
The hut accommodates 60 people in mixed and single-sex dormitory rooms. Half-board is standard and evening meals emphasise local Vorarlberg produce. The kitchen operates year-round except November, though winter access depends on snow conditions—confirm before travelling. Showers and toilets are shared. The location suits both multi-day Alpine touring and weekend hikers tackling the lower Appenzell ridges.

Weekends attract day-hikers from surrounding towns, so book ahead even for nights outside peak summer. Spring and autumn offer quieter conditions and reliable weather windows.
