Ravensburger Hut

Ravensburger Hütte sits at 1948m on the Hochälpele plateau in the Appenzell Alps, on the Austrian-Swiss border. The hut serves as a hub for ridge walks and forays into the Säntis massif. Reach it from Appenzell (Swiss side) in 2.5 hours via Säntis, or from Wasserauen in 3 hours ascending the Schäfler. From the Austrian side, approach from Oberstollen in the Appenzell Alps in roughly 2.5 hours. The hut's exposed position rewards the effort—clear days open views toward the Säntis, Appenzell Alps, and across to the Vorarlberg ridges.
The DAV Sektion Ravensburg manages this 117-bed hut with a working kitchen that serves substantial meals. Showers are available. There is no WiFi, so plan accordingly. The hut opens daily in summer and weekends in shoulder seasons. Book a half-board arrangement (bed and dinner) or full-board. Water comes from the mountain, and the hut operates self-sufficiently.
Phone the hut directly to reserve beds, especially for weekends and July-August. The Hochälpele plateau draws steady weekend traffic, so book at least one week ahead for Saturdays and three weeks for summer holidays. Shoulder seasons (June, September) are quieter and offer more flexible booking. The hut fills fast during school holidays across Switzerland, Austria, and Germany.
