Rifugio Fauniera

Rifugio Fauniera sits at 2,300m on the Italian side of the Maritimes, in the upper Gesso valley near the French border. The main approach is from Terme di Valdieri (1,368m): allow 3–4 hours for the steady climb through open meadows and larch forest on marked trail 1. You can also approach from Boves or the Colle della Lombarda if you're linking multi-day routes. Most hikers arrive from the south in summer.
The rifugio has 30 beds in mixed dorms and a few smaller rooms. Meals are available—book dinner and breakfast when you reserve. Showers are provided, a real advantage at this elevation. The hut operates year-round but staffing varies; the busiest period runs July through September. It serves as a base for walking routes into the Parc Nacional degli Argenti and for crossing toward the French ridges.

The hut will confirm meals, water availability, and current conditions when you book. Winter access is possible but conditions are alpine—check with the rifugio before attempting off-season visits.
