Rifugio Guglielmo Migliorero

Rifugio Guglielmo Migliorero sits at 2,099m in the Alpes-Maritimes, on the border between France and Italy. You reach it from the Vallée de la Tinée via the Refuge de la Madone de Fenestre (1,903m), a steady 4–5 hour walk that climbs through alpine pasture and scree. The hut serves as a hub for traverses toward the Mercantour peaks and access to the GR5 long-distance trail. Park at Madone de Fenestre if approaching from the north, or from Italy via the Val Gesso.
The rifugio holds 88 beds across multiple rooms and runs a simple restaurant serving dinner and breakfast. Showers are available—rare at this elevation. The hut operates year-round but is busiest June to September and during Easter holidays. Staffing is lean outside summer, so confirm opening dates before arriving in shoulder seasons. The CAI manages the hut to Italian standards: expect working facilities, straightforward service, and no frills.
