About

Cabane de Louvie sits at 2,207m in the Massif du Dévoluy, east of Gap in the southern French Alps. Reach it from the village of Superdévoluy via the GR94 trail in 2.5 to 3 hours. The approach climbs steadily through subalpine terrain with minimal scrambling. For a longer approach, hike from Lac de Souliers (1.5 hours additional). The final section crosses open grassland with good views south toward the Chaîne de Rabou.
The cabin is a small mountain shelter run by FFCAM with capacity for around 20 people in basic dormitory accommodation. Meals and hot drinks are available if you book ahead. Water comes from a spring nearby. The hut operates year-round but has limited staffing outside peak season—verify opening dates before you go. Facilities are minimal: bring a headtorch and expect cold nights even in summer. It functions as a base for day walks across the Dévoluy and for traverses toward the Valgaudemar. The area gets snow heavily in winter and spring.
Contact the FFCAM Hautes-Alpes section to book beds and meals. Book at least one week ahead for summer weekends. July and August weekends fill quickly. Arrive by late afternoon as the hut keeper may not wait for arrivals after dark. Pay in cash or arrange payment by bank transfer in advance. The cabin has no phone signal.
