Cabin Mont Fort

Cabane Mont Fort sits at 2,457m on the border between Valais and the Bernese Oberland. The approach from Nendaz takes 2.5 to 3 hours via the Lac de Tracuit trail—a steady alpine walk with good path marking. Most hikers start from Nendaz village (1,400m) and gain 1,000m over that distance. The hut also connects to routes linking Verbier and the Grand Combin massif, making it a logical stop on longer traverses across the Valais Alps.

The hut has 58 beds in shared dormitories. The guardian serves meals (dinner and breakfast included with most overnight stays). Drinking water is available. WiFi reception exists, though don't rely on it for critical communications. There is no self-catering kitchen, so you eat what the hut provides. The hut operates from late spring through September, with exact opening dates depending on snow clearance. Summer weekends and July are consistently full.

Book directly by email or phone as soon as your dates are firm. For July stays, aim to book at least two months ahead. June and September are less crowded but still busy on weekends. Confirm your arrival time when you book—the guardian needs to know you're coming. Mobile signal is weak around the hut, so sort logistics before you arrive. The hut sits in the Parc Régional de la Forêt d'Entremont and is managed by FFCAM (Fédération Française des Clubs Alpins et de Montagne).
