Cabane de Bois Noir Ou du Col de Boulc

Isere, France

About

Cabane de Bois Noir sits at 2,505m on the Col de Boulc in the Hautes-Alpes, on the border between Parc National des Écrins and Parc National de la Vanoise. The hut serves as a base for traverses across the Chaîne de Belledonne and access to peaks including Mont Blanc du Tacul via the Vallée de la Maurienne. Approach from the north via the Refuge de la Forclaz de Montmin (4–5 hours), or from the south via the Vallée de l'Eau d'Olle (6–7 hours). This is a serious mountain route with exposed terrain and stream crossings; snow and ice linger well into summer on the col itself.
The cabin is a simple refuge without a guardian. It has 12–16 sleeping places in basic dormitory conditions and a wood stove for heating. Water comes from a spring near the hut. There are no meals or resupply facilities on-site; bring all food, fuel, and supplies. The hut is typically accessible June to September, weather permitting. Winter access is possible only for experienced alpinists with winter mountaineering skills.
This is an unguarded refuge managed by FFCAM. Check current conditions with the Refuge de la Forclaz de Montmin before departing, as snow coverage and water availability vary significantly. Bring a sleeping bag, mat, and food. Register your plans with someone before setting out. Emergency contact information is posted at the hut.
