Berggasthof Hochbühl

Berggasthof Hochbühl sits at 1190m in the Allgäu Alps near Sonthofen, making it an accessible base for day hikes across the rolling upland meadows and forested ridges of the region. The hut is reachable on foot from Sonthofen in roughly 2 hours via the Hochbühl trail, or you can drive to a small parking area and walk the final 30 minutes. It's well-positioned for exploring the gentler terrain between the Allgäuer and Lechtaler ranges.
The hut operates as a traditional Berggasthof with a strong local following. It has around 25 beds in mixed and private rooms, a kitchen serving regional Swabian and Bavarian dishes, and a sunny terrace facing south across the valleys. Full board is available, or you can eat à la carte in the restaurant. The hut is typically open year-round, though winter service may be limited—check ahead if visiting December to February. Strong mobile signal means you can plan routes on-site if needed.
Book by email or phone, especially for weekends and the main July–September hiking season. This is a working family business rather than a DAV hut, so avoid turning up without a reservation on Saturdays and Sundays. Midweek availability is usually easier.
