Bischlingalm

Bischlingalm sits at 1565m in the Berchtesgaden Alps, a working alpine pasture and hut in the Klais valley southeast of Mittenwald. Reach it from Mittenwald village (4 hours on foot) via the Loisach valley, or from the Schöllang car park near Klais (2.5 hours). The trail climbs steadily through mixed forest and pasture—no scrambling required. This is a serious but manageable day's walk; start early if you're continuing over the ridge toward Benediktenwand or down toward Bad Tölz.
Bischlingalm is a simple operational hut with basic accommodation for around 30 people. Expect shared rooms, cold water, and outhouse toilets typical of working farm huts. The family who runs it serves hearty Bavarian food at lunch and dinner—phone ahead if you need dinner; breakfast is available. Water comes from a spring on the property. The hut operates year-round but is busiest June through September and during school holidays. Winter access is on foot; the hut closes for short periods during the transition seasons.
Book directly by phone. The hut takes walk-ins when space allows, but beds fill quickly on weekends and during summer school holidays in July and August. Call ahead, especially if you need supper. This is a working farm first, a hut second—expect a quiet, unglamorous place where you sleep and eat well, not a social hub.
