Frommerniedreralm

Frommerniedreralm sits at 1,340m in the Berchtesgaden Alps, above the village of Bad Reichenhall. The hut is reachable in 2.5 hours from the Noramoos trailhead near Bayerisch Gmain, following the Saalach valley south through mixed forest and alpine meadow. The final approach climbs steeply but steadily to the alm. From here you can continue south to Hochstaufen (1,531m) in another 1.5 hours, or traverse east toward the Trainsjoch saddle and the Wimbach gorge. Summer access via this route offers straightforward hiking terrain, though creek crossings can be difficult after heavy rain.
The hut operates as a traditional Bavarian alm, serving simple regional food—Kaiserschmarrn, Erdäpfelsuppe, and fresh bread. It has beds for around 35 guests in a mix of two- to four-person rooms. The owner runs a small dairy operation, so fresh milk and dairy products appear regularly on the menu. There are basic shower facilities and a drying room. The hut is usually open May through October, depending on snow conditions in spring and autumn.
Book directly by phone or email at least 4 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. The hut fills quickly during school holidays in Bavaria. Arrive by mid-afternoon to ensure a hot meal. The nearest towns for supplies are Bad Reichenhall (8km away) and Bayerisch Gmain (5km), though the hut sells basic provisions and snacks if you're caught short.
