Spießalm

Spießalm sits at 1,200m in the Berchtesgaden Alps southeast of Bad Reichenhall. Reach it from the Bayerischzell valley via the Priental, a straightforward 2-hour hike. The approach is gentle and well-marked, making this an accessible base for exploring the region's rolling limestone terrain. You can also approach from Reit im Winkl to the east, adding 3 hours to your walk. The hut sits above the Priental, offering views into the Berchtesgaden massif without requiring serious climbing.
Spießalm is a working dairy farm and traditional mountain inn run by the Ramer family for generations. It sleeps around 30 guests across simple rooms and dormitories. The kitchen serves Bavarian fare sourced partly from the farm itself—expect hearty soups, schnitzel, and fresh dairy products. There's no shower facility, but washroom basics are available. The hut operates year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions; contact ahead if you're planning a winter visit. It's quieter than DAV club huts, attracting hikers seeking a more local experience.
