Wasseralm in der Röth

Wasseralm in der Röth sits at 1,423m in the Röth valley, tucked into the eastern Berchtesgaden Alps. The hut is easiest to reach from Schönau am Königssee: allow 2.5 hours on foot via the Röthbach trail, a steady climb through beech forest that gains 500m elevation. You can also approach from the Wimbachklamm gorge side, though this route takes longer. The Röth valley itself is relatively quiet compared to the popular Wimbachtal to the west.
The DAV-managed hut has 30 beds in simple shared rooms. Full meals are served daily—expect traditional Bavarian fare cooked from scratch. There's no shower or flush toilet, which keeps the hut small and the valley less crowded. A tap with mountain water is available. The hut operates year-round, though winter access depends entirely on snow conditions. Staff can usually accommodate groups with advance notice.
Book by phone directly with the hut. Summer weekends fill quickly, especially July and August—call at least 4 weeks ahead. May, June, and September are better bets for finding space. Winter visitors should confirm conditions before heading up; the hut may be unreachable or operating on skeleton staffing during deep snow or thaw periods.
