Wildseeloderhaus

Wildseeloderhaus sits at 1,854m in the Chiemgau Alps, above the Wildsee lake. Reach it from Marquartstein in the Priental valley. The standard approach takes 2.5 hours from Rottau to the Hochplötzenhütte, then 1.5 hours onwards to Wildseeloderhaus. Alternatively, hike from the Chiemsee side via Pfaffenhofen and the Stahlhaus in 4–5 hours. The hut perches on exposed ridgeline terrain with views across Chiemgau peaks and into Austria. Route-finding in poor visibility requires attention; snow and ice demand proper winter equipment outside summer months.

The hut is a DAV member facility run by the alpine club. It sleeps around 70 people in dormitory rooms and a few double berths. The kitchen serves dinner and breakfast; bring lunch supplies or order packed meals ahead. Water comes from the nearby Wildsee or from a spring source—not always reliable in dry spells, so carry capacity. The hut sits exposed to Föhn winds and winter storms. It opens year-round but staffing is minimal outside summer; call ahead in shoulder seasons to confirm availability. Winter access requires mountaineering experience and avalanche knowledge—the ridge becomes serious terrain when snow-loaded.

Book direct by email or phone 2–3 months ahead for July and August. July weekends fill completely. Phone contact is preferable for seasonal queries. The hut accepts cash and bank transfer only—no card payment. Approach the Rottau trailhead early on summer days; car parks fill by 10:00.
