Rifugio Casera Ditta

Rifugio Casera Ditta sits at 956m in the Carnian Alps, reached via the Pesarina Valley north of Tolmezzo in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The approach takes 1.5–2 hours on foot from the road's end at Pesarina, following a well-marked trail through beech forest with steady elevation gain. This is low-altitude terrain, ideal for spring and autumn hiking when higher huts are still snowed in or closed.

The rifugio is a simple mountain farm-restaurant, not a staffed overnight hut. It serves hearty local food—fresh pasta, cured meats, cheese—and operates as a day-stop for hikers on longer valley routes. The setting is pastoral rather than alpine: you're hiking through working pasture and forested slopes, not above treeline. The location works well as a lunch halt on ridge traverses or as a base for exploring the quieter eastern Alps away from the Dolomite crowds. Summer weekends and Italian holidays draw day-trippers from nearby towns.
