Rifugio Dolomieu al Dolada

Rifugio Dolomieu al Dolada sits at 2,513m on the Col de la Loze in the northern French Alps, between the Tarentaise and Maurienne valleys. Reach it from Tignes via the GR5 or from Bonneval-en-Maurienne over the Col de la Loze pass—expect 4–5 hours from either trailhead. The approach is straightforward mountain terrain with well-marked paths.

The hut sleeps 50 people in dormitory rooms and private doubles. Half-board is standard: dinner and breakfast are included, and packed lunches can be ordered the night before. The kitchen serves simple, high-calorie meals built for hikers. Showers are available (though hot water is limited). There's no Wi-Fi or phone signal inside, making this a genuine refuge from the connected world. The hut opens year-round but sees heaviest use from June through September, with winter weekends also busy for ski-mountaineers.

Book directly through the hut for July and August—aim for 8–12 weeks ahead. May, June, and September are easier to access with 2–4 weeks' notice. The hut fills quickly on weekends. Email or call ahead to confirm the current open status in winter and spring, as avalanche risk or snow conditions occasionally force closures. Bring cash if you plan to settle bills on departure; card payment is possible but less reliable due to patchy connectivity in the valley.
