Colvere

Colvere sits at 2,438m on the border between Lombardy and Veneto in the eastern Dolomites. Reach it from Passo Ghedina (2,159m) via a 2-hour traverse south across open meadows and scree, or from Rifugio Auronzo in 3.5 hours heading west. Both routes are well-marked but involve steady climbing with loose sections on the final approach. The hut anchors access to Monte Popera and the surrounding Tre Cime group, making it a solid base for two to three days of ridge traverses and peak bagging.
The hut sleeps around 60 people in small dormitories and a few double rooms. Meals are served buffet-style: breakfast and dinner are included with overnight stays, lunch packs available on request. Water comes from a spring nearby—reliable except late season. Showers are cold and the toilet situation is basic mountain standards. Open mid-June through September. Winter climbing is possible with advance notice, but expect minimal facilities and no cooked meals.
Book directly by email or phone 3–4 months ahead for July and August. Peak weekends fill fast. Phone reception is spotty but exists. Arrive by early afternoon to secure a bed; the hut turns away walk-ins regularly once full. Credit cards accepted. The keeper speaks Italian and basic English.
