Marchhütte

Marchhütte sits at 2,249m on the Stubaier Alpen's eastern ridge, accessible from the Elferkogl trailhead near Ötztal. The approach takes 3–4 hours of steady climbing through alpine meadow and scree. Most parties hike in from Oetz village (about 1,300m elevation gain) or drop down from neighboring peaks like Wilder Freiger if you're on a ridge traverse. The hut itself occupies a working saddle with views across the Ötztal drainage and toward the Zillertal peaks.

The hut operates year-round with 30 beds in small dormitory rooms. Self-catering facilities are available, though the warden can provide basic supplies. Water comes from a mountain spring. The building is basic mountain shelter—reliable but not luxurious. Winter access requires avalanche assessment; snow conditions dictate whether the path remains walkable. Summer crowds are moderate compared to major huts on the Berliner Höhenweg.

June and September offer better availability with stable weather. The hut sits on a major route between Ötztal villages, so weekends draw local traffic even outside peak season.
