Wildbachhütte

About
Wildbachhütte sits at 2,272m in the Zillertal Alps, reachable via the Stillup valley from Finkenberg. The approach takes 3.5 hours from the valley floor, gaining 1,100m on a well-marked trail that crosses alpine meadows before steepening into rocky terrain. In winter, the valley road closes and access becomes significantly harder. This isolation is the hut's defining feature—you're genuinely remote here, far from the crowds at more accessible huts.
The hut sleeps around 40 people in dorm rooms and a handful of private spaces. Half-board (dinner and breakfast) is standard; the kitchen serves straightforward mountain fare. There's a basic common room with a wood stove, but no WiFi—this is intentional. Water comes from the Wildbach stream. The hut operates year-round, though winter access requires serious experience and planning. Summer conditions are reliably good from June through September. Mountaineers use it as a base for routes in the surrounding peaks, particularly for approaches to the Zsigmondy Spitzen and Wilder Freiger.
Book 2–3 months ahead for July and August weekends; mid-week slots open up faster. Contact the hut directly by phone (preferable) or email—they're not on major booking platforms. July and August are busiest. Arrive early if you're driving: the Stillup valley road is narrow and parking fills by mid-morning on busy days.
