About

Rifugio Vajolet sits at 2,243 m at Porte Neigre, the rocky threshold between the Gardeccia basin and the upper Vajolet valley in the heart of the Catinaccio (Rosengarten) group, Val di Fassa. Directly above it rise the Vajolet Towers — the Winkler, Stabeler and Delago towers whose classic routes, led by Georg Winkler in 1887, made this one of the most famous climbing addresses in the Dolomites. Built in 1897 by the Leipzig section of the German-Austrian Alpine Club, the hut has belonged to the Società degli Alpinisti Tridentini (SAT) since 1923 and is run by Fabio and Karin Bernard. It offers around 130 beds in rooms of two to four, plus a winter room, and is open from mid-June to late September. The easiest approach starts at Gardeccia (1,950 m), reached by shuttle bus from Pera di Fassa, from where a wide track (path 546) climbs to the hut in about one hour; from the Ciampedie cable car above Vigo di Fassa allow roughly 90 minutes. Vajolet is the hub for the Passo Santner via ferrata, Punta Emma and the classic Catinaccio traverses toward Passo Principe and Antermoia.

Yes. The approach from Gardeccia is a broad, well-graded track that fit children manage easily, and the hut itself is a comfortable base. The famous objectives above it — the Vajolet Towers and the Passo Santner via ferrata — are for experienced climbers and ferratists only.
The hut serves Trentino mountain cooking with gluten-free and vegan options, and offers half- or full-board stays. Accommodation is in rooms of two to four beds; around 130 sleeping places in total. Expect simple shared facilities typical of a busy SAT hut.
