About

Bivak na Črniku sits at 1160m on the slopes above Drežnica in the Julian Alps, serving climbers heading to Črnik and onwards to higher peaks. The hut lies roughly 90 minutes' walk from Drežnica village, following marked PZS trails uphill through forest and open ground. Most parties approach from the Soča River valley to the west.

This is a basic mountain shelter, not a staffed hut. It offers emergency accommodation and serves as a working base for alpine climbers tackling the surrounding rock and mixed terrain. The bivouac has minimal facilities—expect a roof, walls, and sleeping space on a first-come basis. Bring your own sleeping bag, food, and water. There is no electricity, heating, or catering. The shelter stays open year-round, though winter access depends on snow conditions and your own winter mountaineering skills.

Register with the local PZS section (Tolmin) before use if you're unfamiliar with the area. The shelter is unmanned, so arrive with a headtorch if timing is tight. Check current access conditions locally—rockfall and avalanche risk vary by season. Stock supplies in Drežnica before heading up.
