Bregarjevo Shelter

Bregarjevo Zavetišče sits at 1620m in the Julian Alps, reached via the Tolmin side of the range. The hut serves as a base for hikers tackling the surrounding ridges and peaks. The approach takes 2–3 hours from the nearest road access, following marked trails through beech and spruce forest. Most parties come from Tolmin valley to the west or via Kamnik from the east, depending on your itinerary. The location works well for multi-day traverses across the northern Julian Alps.
The shelter is basic alpine accommodation run by PZS and the local club PD Drago Bregar. Fourteen beds are split between two sleeping areas. The hut has a small kitchen and basic water supply; bring a water filter or plan water collection from nearby sources. Meals are available if you book ahead—expect simple fare suited to hiking groups. The shelter opens year-round but is most reliably staffed April through October. Winter visits require prior arrangement.
Contact the hut directly by phone to reserve beds, especially during July and August when weekend spaces fill quickly. Book at least 3–4 weeks ahead for peak season. The shelter suits small parties and club groups better than large organised hikes. Payment is cash on arrival unless otherwise arranged when booking. Check current opening status and meal availability before your visit, as staffing can vary outside main season.
