Pogačnikov Lodge na Kriških Podih

Pogačnikov Dom na Kriških Podih sits at 2,050m in the Julian Alps, on the high plateau of Kriške Podi. The hut lies on the main route between Krnica and Martuljek valleys, making it a natural stop for multi-day traverses. From Krnica to the south, expect 2.5 to 3 hours on foot. From the north via Martuljek, allow 3 to 3.5 hours. The approach is steep in sections but well-marked. Snow lingers into May on the higher sections; check conditions before you go.

The PZS-managed lodge holds 59 beds across multiple rooms. Meals are available year-round, with the kitchen serving standard Alpine fare. The hut has a common room with views across the high plateau. Facilities include basic bunk accommodation, heating, and running water. The hut is typically open May through October, though exact dates depend on snow and staffing—contact ahead if you're planning an early or late season visit. Winter mountaineers occasionally use it as a base, but heating and supplies are not guaranteed outside summer months.

Half-board (dinner and breakfast) is standard. Bring cash; card payment may not be reliable at this elevation.
