Vodnikov Lodge na Velem Polju

Vodnikov Dom sits at 1,817m on Velem Polju, a high pasture in the Bohinjska Bela valley of the Julian Alps. Reach it from Srednja vas (the trailhead near Bohinj) via a hiking route that takes 2–2.5 hours. The hut serves as a base for traverses across the Bohinjska Bela peaks and access to higher summits including Triglav. Summer access is straightforward; winter approaches require mountain experience and avalanche awareness.

The lodge offers 60 beds in multiple rooms and provides half-board (dinner and breakfast). Meals focus on traditional Slovenian mountain food. Water comes from the building's own source. The hut runs year-round but operates on reduced capacity outside peak season (roughly June to September). Facilities include a common room with a wood stove, adequate toilets, and basic heating. This is a working mountain lodge, not a hotel.

Book direct by phone with PZS or the managing club PD Srednja vas v Bohinju. July and August fill quickly—book 6–8 weeks ahead for summer dates. Weekends in June and September see regular demand. Outside summer months, confirm availability before travel as staffing varies. The hut closes briefly for maintenance in late autumn and early spring; check before planning winter visits. Bring cash for meals and extras; card payment options are limited.
