About

Zasavska koča na Prehodavcih sits at 2,071 m on a rise just above the Prehodavci saddle, at the northern head of the Triglav Lakes Valley (Dolina Triglavskih jezer) inside Triglav National Park. It stands where the trail from the Trenta valley crosses the pass and drops into the chain of Triglav lakes, which makes it a natural staging post on multi-day traverses of the Julian Alps and on the classic Seven Lakes route. First built in 1954 on the foundations of a former Italian border post, it is run by the Radece branch (PD Radece) of the Alpine Association of Slovenia (PZS) — Radece being only the club's home town, not a way to reach the hut.

The hut has 39 beds in two rooms and a 40-seat dining room with a bar serving hot meals and drinks; a separate winter room with 16 places stays open when the hut is unstaffed. Wardening runs from early July to the end of September. No road reaches the hut — every approach is a mountain walk of at least four hours, most often from Zadnjica in the upper Trenta valley to the south-west, or from the Bohinj side (Planina Blato or the Savica hut) to the south-east. It is a busy stop on the Triglav Lakes route, so book ahead for summer weekends.

A demanding marked route from Lake Bohinj's Savica end, climbing the Komarca wall and passing the Triglav lakes.

Frequently Asked Questions

No road reaches the hut; every approach is on foot. The shortest is from Zadnjica in the upper Trenta valley (about 4 hours), and there are longer approaches of 5 hours or more from the Bohinj side via Planina Blato or the Savica hut. Ignore any suggestion of reaching it 'by car from Radece' — Radece is only the managing club's home town, roughly 150 km away.
It is staffed, with meals and service, from early July to the end of September. Outside that window a separate winter room with 16 places stays open for self-service shelter.
Contact PD Radece by phone on +386 51 614 781 or email [email protected]. Book ahead for summer weekends, as it is a busy stop on the Triglav Lakes circuit.
Every approach is a long mountain hike of four hours or more with significant ascent on marked alpine terrain, so it suits fit walkers with some mountain experience rather than complete beginners. The Zadnjica/Trenta routes are the most straightforward; the Savica approach is demanding.
Yes — when staffed (July to September) the hut has a 40-seat dining room and bar serving hot meals and drinks. Carry your own water for the approach, which is long and has no reliable sources near the top.
