Ruška Hut

Ruška Koča sits at 1246m on the Pohorje plateau in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The hut is reached from Zreče via the Ruška Cesta road, then a short walk through beech and spruce forest. Most hikers approach from Zreče in the valley below—roughly 2 hours on foot. The location puts you at the heart of Pohorje's high-elevation walking terrain, with access to ridge trails across the plateau and descents into surrounding valleys.

The hut offers 40 beds in simple rooms and serves traditional Slovenian mountain food. The kitchen provides hot meals for overnight guests and day visitors. A wood stove keeps the common room warm through the hiking season. Water comes from a natural spring. The hut operates year-round, though staffing and meal availability are more reliable from May to October. Phone ahead to confirm availability outside peak season.

Book directly by phone well ahead for summer weekends and July. The hut fills quickly during school holidays and fine-weather periods in July and August. Weekday visits have far fewer crowds. Winter access depends on snow conditions and staff availability—call before the trip. The PZS maintains the hut and its approach trails.
