Štuhecov Lodge

Štuhecov Dom sits at 1181m on the northern slopes of Pohorje, a forested mountain range between the Drava Valley and Savinja Valley. The hut is accessible from multiple directions. From Ruše (30km south of Maribor), follow the marked trail to Črešnjica (1286m) in around 2.5 hours, then descend slightly to the hut. Alternatively, approach from Vevče or via the Pohorje ridge trail system. The hut works well as a waypoint on longer Pohorje traverses rather than a destination in itself.
The lodge offers around 30 beds in mixed dormitories and a few double rooms. Meals are served daily when the hut is staffed. The kitchen provides hearty Slovenian fare—expect soups, stews, and local specialities. Basic facilities include a wood stove for warmth and a small common room. Water comes from a spring. The hut operates year-round but staffing varies seasonally; confirm opening hours before visiting in winter or shoulder months.
Contact the PZS (Alpine Association of Slovenia) or call ahead to check current opening status. Book beds in advance during July and August, when Pohorje attracts weekend hikers from the Maribor area. Weekdays in June and September are quieter. Payment is typically in cash; confirm payment methods when you call. The hut is basic but functional, suited to hikers working through Pohorje rather than those seeking comfort.
