Mariborska Hut

Mariborska Koča sits at 1,068m on Pohorje, a forested plateau east of Maribor that offers reliable hiking and skiing year-round. The hut is a 1.5-hour walk from Maribor's suburbs via marked trails through beech and spruce forest. Most hikers approach from the south via the village of Šentilj or from the north via Ruška Koča trail, both well-signed and moderate grade. The location works as a base for exploring Pohorje's ridge trails and peaks like Kremžar (1,542m), which lie within 2 hours' walk.
Mariborska Koča operates year-round and has 60 beds in simple shared and double rooms. The hut serves hot meals daily and stocks basic groceries and drinks. Winter access is reliable thanks to a groomed road and the plateau's lower elevation means fewer avalanche concerns than higher huts. Facilities are functional—basic heating, running water, and toilet blocks. The hut's location makes it popular with local hikers, school groups, and cross-country skiers in winter.
Book direct with the PZS-affiliated hut. July to September weekends and all days in December-January fill quickly; contact at least 3 weeks ahead for these periods. May through June and September through November offer good availability. Half-board rates are standard. The hut lies on the Pohorje Hiking Trail loop, so it suits 2-3 day trips combining ridge walking with forest descents.
