Planinarska Kuća Kuna Gora

Planinarska Kuća Kuna Gora sits at 1,520m on the slopes of Kuna Gora in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The hut is a base for day walks across the alpine meadows and ridges of this eastern range. Reach it in 2.5 to 3 hours from the Rečica valley trailhead (car park at ~900m). The approach gains 600m steadily through forest, then opens onto grassland with views toward Planjava and Turska Gora. You can also hike to the hut via Grajski vrh or connect it with walks to nearby Korošica hut (5.5 hours).
The hut is run by PZS (Planinska zveza Slovenije) and has capacity for around 40 people. It operates as a full-service mountain hut with hot meals (book in advance for dinner), basic bunk accommodation, and water from the spring. Toilets and heating are available. The hut is open year-round but staffed reliably May to September. Off-season visits require checking current conditions and may mean unstaffed shelter with limited facilities.
Contact the hut directly before visiting to confirm opening dates and reserve meals. PZS membership gets you a modest discount on accommodation. Weekends fill quickly in July and August; book at least 2 weeks ahead for those months. Winter access is possible but weather-dependent—check forecasts and hut status before attempting the approach.
