Edmund-Graf-Hut

Edmund-Graf-Hütte sits at 2,375m on the Säntis massif in northeastern Switzerland. Approach from Appenzell Alps base villages: most hikers start from Wasserauen (cable car to Ebenalp at 1,640m, then 3–4 hours on foot) or from Schäfler (2–3 hours). The hut anchors several day-hike circuits across open alpine pasture and limestone ridges. Trails connect reliably to Säntis (2,502m, 45 minutes) and south toward Schäfler. This section of the Alps has limited elevation gain but exposed, windy ridges; come prepared for sudden weather changes.
The hut holds around 80 beds in mixed dorms. SAC members receive bunk rates; non-members pay slightly more. Half-board (dinner and breakfast) is standard. The kitchen serves straightforward mountain food. Water comes from the hut's own spring. Facilities include a common room with views and basic sleeping quarters. The hut opens year-round but operates most reliably May to October; winter stays require advance notice and are dependent on snow conditions.
Book by email as far ahead as possible for July and August. Weekend traffic is heavy. Weekday visits see fewer crowds. The hut's email contact handles reservations directly; include your expected arrival date and party size. Arrive by mid-afternoon. Most visitors stay one night as part of a two- or three-day traverse of the Säntis range.
