Cabin la Rochette

Cabane la Rochette sits at 1,280m in the Valais region, serving as a base for day hikes and longer Alpine traverses. The hut lies above the village of Grimentz in the Val d'Anniviers. Most parties approach from Grimentz (30 minutes uphill) or from Zinal via the col de la Forclaz route (3–4 hours). The location puts you within striking distance of the 3,000m peaks that ring the valley, making it ideal for acclimatization or for breaking up a multi-day traverse.
The SAC/CAS-run hut offers around 60 beds in mixed and private rooms. The kitchen serves hot dinners and packed lunches; bring your own breakfast supplies or order ahead. You'll find basic washing facilities and an outside toilet—there's no WiFi, so expect a genuine disconnect. The hut operates year-round, though availability drops sharply October to April. Water comes from a reliable spring nearby. Evening meals must be ordered in advance when you book.
Book direct with the hut as early as possible. July and August demand reservations 2–3 months ahead; weekends fill faster than weekdays. In shoulder seasons (June, September), you can usually book 4–6 weeks out. The hut charges per bed per night plus meal supplements; confirm current prices when booking. Pay cash or with card depending on what's accepted—clarify when you reserve.
