About
Muttseehütte sits at 2,501m in the Glarus Alps, above the Muttensee reservoir. The hut is 3 hours from Linthal on the valley floor. Most hikers approach via the Käsernalp trail, gaining 1,200m elevation steadily through subalpine meadows and scree. You can also reach it in 2.5 hours from Tödi via the connecting ridgeline if you're coming from neighboring huts.
The hut holds 76 beds across multiple rooms and serves three meals daily from May to October. Vegetarian and meat options are standard. The kitchen provides hot drinks around the clock. Water comes from the pristine Muttensee itself—a natural advantage at this elevation. WiFi is available throughout the building, though the signal can be patchy. Solar panels power much of the hut's electricity. Toilets are inside; showers require advance arrangement. The sitting room has large windows overlooking the reservoir and surrounding peaks.
Book directly by email or phone with SAC Sektion Winterthur. July and early August fill 4–6 weeks ahead, especially weekends. June, September, and early October are significantly quieter. Summer storms roll through regularly in the afternoon, so plan ascents for morning starts. The hut is closed November through April. Rates are standard SAC pricing; members receive a 10–15% discount. Specify your arrival time when booking—staff prepare meals accordingly.
