Claridenhütte

Claridenhütte sits at 2,453m in the Glarus Alps, above the Claridengletscher glacier. Reach it from Linthal via the Claridenpasshütte or from the Oberalppass. The approach from Linthal takes 4–5 hours and crosses steep terrain; the Oberalppass route takes 3–4 hours and is less exposed. This is a serious mountain walk, not a valley stroll. Snow lies on the approaches well into June, and crampons may be needed. The hut sits on the Säntis–Uri Alps traverse, a long-distance route many use for multi-day trips across the range.
The hut holds 74 beds across multiple rooms. SAC Sektion Bachtel runs it and serves three meals daily—breakfast, lunch, and packed dinners on request. A self-catering kitchen lets you prepare your own food if you prefer. Meltwater from the glacier above provides reliable drinking water. The hut is open year-round, though access in winter requires mountain skills and avalanche knowledge. Summer is the main season; autumn and spring see fewer visitors.
Book directly with the hut by phone or email at least 4–6 weeks ahead for July and August. During these months, weekends fill fast. SAC members get a small discount. The hut keeps an online booking calendar; check it before contacting them to see what nights are available. Arrive before dark, especially if you're new to the approach.
