Chamanna Georgy

Chamanna Georgy stands at 3,175m in the Albula Alps, northeast of Bergün in Graubünden. Approach from Preda (1,797m) via the Alp Flix plateau, a 5-hour hike with 1,400m elevation gain. The route follows established trails through alpine meadows then scree slopes to the hut. Alternatively, start from Bergün and take the steeper, more direct 4-hour approach. Winter access requires mountaineering skills and avalanche assessment. The hut sits on the watershed between the Rhine and the Inn, with Piz Kesch (3,417m) and Piz d'Err (3,378m) close by.
The SAC-managed hut sleeps 40 in multi-bed dormitories and simple private rooms. Full meals are served; the kitchen provides hearty dinners and breakfast. Bring a sleeping bag. Water comes from snowmelt and springs. The hut operates from mid-June to late September for summer mountaineering. Winter use is possible but extremely limited—contact the keeper first. Basic facilities only: composting toilets, no shower. Expect crowding in July and August.
Book 2–3 months ahead for summer weekends via the SAC website or phone the hut directly. Arrive by early afternoon. The hut's remote location and high elevation mean weather can deteriorate rapidly; plan descents carefully and don't linger near Piz Kesch in afternoon storms.
