Refuge Lago della Casera

Rifugio Lago della Casera sits at 1966m in the Bergamo Alps on the border between Lombardy and Veneto. The standard approach is from Piazza Brembana via the Val Brembana: hike 2 hours steeply uphill on marked trails to reach the hut. Most mountaineers approach from the south via Resca or from the north, which takes 3–4 hours depending on your starting point. The hut overlooks Lago della Casera and sits on a natural crossroads for ridge traversals and scrambles across this lesser-known range.
The hut is run by the SAC (Swiss Alpine Club) and CAI (Italian Alpine Club) jointly. It sleeps around 40 people in mixed dormitories. Meals are available daily during the season; bring cash as card payments are unreliable at this altitude. The refuge opens year-round but staffing is minimal in winter—check ahead if visiting November to March. Showers and toilet facilities are basic but functional. Water comes from the lake and is treated.
Book directly by phone or email at least 2–3 weeks ahead for weekends in July and August. The hut fills quickly on Saturdays during summer. Winter visits require advance notice to ensure someone is present. Arrive early if you're walking in on the day—the hut prefers confirmed reservations to manage cooking and bed allocation.
