About

Zollhütte sits at 2,440m in the Prättigau valley, on the border between Graubünden and St. Gallen. The standard approach climbs from Schlappin (1,300m) in around 4 hours. Route-finding is straightforward on marked paths through forest and meadow. In winter, approach from the Garfiun side. The hut works well as a base for day hikes into the Säntis massif or as a stop on longer traverses.

The hut is run by the SAC and holds around 60 beds across dorm rooms and a few private doubles. Meals are basic but solid—you can order dinner the evening before, or take breakfast and packed lunches. Water comes from a spring. There's no shower. The season runs June through October, with winter weekends possible if you phone ahead. Reception hours are usually 8am-10pm.

Book directly with the hut by phone or email as soon as you know your dates—July and August fill quickly, sometimes months ahead. The hut is popular with families and groups doing multi-day circuits. Bring cash for payment unless you've arranged otherwise when booking. October offers quieter conditions and clearer nights if you're flexible on timing.
