Cabin Alpa Canaa

Capanna Alpa Canaa sits at 1,843m in the Lepontine Alps of Ticino, above the Val Bavona. Reach it from Robiei (1,606m) in roughly 2.5 hours on the trail heading northeast toward Basòdino. The hut also connects to routes toward Pizzo Ticino and works as a staging point for traverses in the southern Swiss Alps. Summer access is straightforward; winter routes depend on snow conditions and avalanche risk.

The hut has 20 beds split across simple dorms. Hot meals are available when the guardian is present. Water comes from the mountain spring nearby. Facilities are basic—expect no showers, no wifi, and no electricity beyond small solar panels. The hut typically opens in June and closes in September, depending on snow. Check ahead before visiting in shoulder months.

Book directly through the hut or contact the SAC/CAS section managing it. Summer weekends fill quickly, especially July and August; reserve at least 3–4 weeks ahead for those periods. Half-board (dinner and breakfast) is standard and should be arranged when you book. The hut sits on a key through-route, so it gets busy mid-season with hikers doing multi-day traverses.
