Cabin Ribia

Capanna Ribia sits at 1,996m in the Ticino Alps above the Val Bavona. Reach it from Robiei (1,808m) via a marked trail in 1.5 hours, crossing alpine meadows and sparse larch forest. The hut stands on the main hiking corridor linking the Gotthard Massif to the southern valleys, making it a logical stop on multi-day traverses. Access is foot-traffic only—no cable car or mechanical aid.
The hut sleeps 12 people in shared rooms. The manager provides full board; no self-catering kitchen is available. Meals are simple mountain fare, cooked fresh in the small kitchen. Drinking water comes from the spring outside. The SAC/CAS operates Capanna Ribia as a staffed hut through the summer season (typically June to September). Conditions vary by year, so confirm the season when planning. Toilet facilities are basic—expect an outdoor pit toilet.
Book directly by phone or email at least 4–6 weeks ahead, especially for July and August weekends. July and August are peak months; mid-week slots fill quickly too. Arrive by mid-afternoon to secure dinner service. The hut lies on popular week-long routes across Ticino, so book early if you're traveling mid-summer.
