About

Capanna Alzasca sits at 1,734m in the Leventina valley south of the Gotthard Pass. The hut is reached via a 2-hour hike from Acquarossa, climbing steadily through mixed forest and Alpine meadow. Most hikers approach from the valley floor at around 600m, so plan for a solid day's ascent. The location gives you direct access to the ridges above the Lukmanier Pass and views toward the Ticino peaks.

The hut sleeps 20 people and is run by CAS Locarno (the Locarno section of the Swiss Alpine Club). You can book meals or use the self-catering kitchen. Drinking water is available on site. The hut operates year-round but is busiest from June through September. Winter visits are possible but require good planning—check current snow conditions and heating availability before you go.

Book directly by email or phone to CAS Locarno. For July and August weekends, contact them 4–6 weeks ahead. Weekday visits in June and September have much more availability. The hut fills quickly during school holidays and fair-weather weekends, so calling ahead to confirm space is essential even if you have a flexible schedule.
