Cabin Garzonera

Capanna Garzonera sits at 1,973m in the Ticino Alps, on the border region between Switzerland and Italy. The hut is accessible via hiking trails from the Verzasca Valley. The main approach takes around 4 hours from Sonogno, gaining 1,100m of elevation on a well-marked path through mixed forest and alpine meadow. This is a straightforward day hike for fit walkers, though the climb is relentless in the final sections.
The hut operates as a simple mountain refuge with 20 beds in shared dormitory rooms. A caretaker provides meals—typically hearty soups, pasta, and local Ticinese dishes. You'll find drinking water on-site. There is no self-catering kitchen, so you eat what the hut serves or bring your own food. The hut operates seasonally, typically from late spring through early autumn (May to October), though dates vary by year. Check ahead before planning a winter visit.
Book direct by email well in advance, especially for July and August when weekend beds fill quickly. Groups should contact 2–3 months ahead. The hut is popular with hikers crossing between the Verzasca Valley and the Nara Valley, so plan accordingly. The location makes it an ideal base for ridge walks and scrambles in the surrounding peaks, or a rest stop on longer valley traverses.
