Cabin Tremorgio

Capanna Tremorgio sits at 1,850m in the Leventina valley, above Faido in Ticino. The most direct approach climbs from Faido (village, 750m) in 3.5 hours via a steady forest trail that breaks into alpine meadow near the hut. Stronger walkers can approach via Ritom (1,855m) from the east in 2.5 hours, crossing gentle terrain. The hut lies on the Sentiero Walser, a long-distance trail linking the Walser communities across the southern Alps, making it a natural stop for multi-day traverses through Ticino.

The hut holds 47 beds across dormitory rooms and a few smaller chambers. It's managed by the local SAC section and serves hot dinners and hearty breakfasts. The kitchen can accommodate special diets with advance notice. Water comes from a spring. The hut has an emergency radio and basic first-aid supplies. It opens mid-April through late October, closing during heavy snow periods. Daytime visitors are welcome year-round if access is possible.

Book accommodation 2–3 months ahead for July and August weekends. Contact the hut directly by phone or email (details on the SAC website). Walk-ins succeed on weekdays and shoulder season, though calling ahead prevents disappointment. The hut closes Mondays and Tuesdays outside summer. Winter access depends entirely on snow conditions and avalanche risk—consult locally before attempting December–March visits.
