Cabin Leit

Capanna Leit sits at 2,257m in the Ticino Alps, on the border between Switzerland and Italy. Reach it from the Nara valley via the Pizzo Fatüm route, a 3-hour hike that climbs steadily through alpine meadows and stone. The hut perches at the head of a hanging valley with direct access to 3,000m peaks—ideal for mountaineers planning ridge traverses or summit attempts on Pizzo Cornera or Basodino. The location feels remote despite road access to the Nara valley floor.

The hut operates year-round and houses 64 beds across dormitory rooms and 6 private rooms. Meals are served in the dining hall; the kitchen is staffed so you eat what they cook. Drinking water comes from the mountain; there is no self-catering kitchen. Conditions are basic but warm—this is a working hut, not a resort. The hut functions as a base for serious hiking and ski touring in winter, with climbers regularly stocking supplies here before pushing into higher terrain.

Book directly by phone or email well ahead for July and August. Summer weekends fill quickly. Off-season (October to May) typically has capacity, though weather and snow close the access route for stretches.
