Cabin Neveggio

Capanna Neveggio sits at 940m in the Neveggio Valley north of Roveredo in southern Ticino. Reach it via the Traversa della Leveggia trail, a 3-hour walk that climbs steadily through chestnut and beech forest from Roveredo (220m). The valley narrows as you ascend, and the hut appears in a small clearing surrounded by granite cliffs. This is a basecamp for ridge traverses and scrambles across the Ticino uplands, not an alpine hut in the traditional sense.
The hut sleeps 30 across dormitory-style rooms. Showers and flush toilets are available—unusually comfortable for its remoteness. Drinking water comes from the stream. The hut serves simple meals and packed lunches if ordered ahead. The season runs year-round, though access is slower in winter due to snow on approach trails. It operates as a working basecamp rather than a hotel, with a stripped-down feel that suits climbers and off-season hikers.
Email ahead to book, especially for groups or if you need meals prepared. Summer weekends and July–August can fill up, but this hut sees less pressure than higher alpine routes. Expect basic accommodation and a quiet atmosphere.
