About

Berghütte Hohsaas sits at 3,140m in the Mischhabel massif above Saas-Grund. Reach the hut from Saas-Grund village (1,559m) via the Saas-Almagell valley in 4.5 to 5 hours. The route climbs steadily through alpine pasture and scree. From the north, you can approach via the Britannia Hütte (2,581m) in 3 hours, crossing the Längfluh Pass (2,889m). Snow covers the access routes into June; check conditions before setting out.
The hut operates year-round and sleeps around 50 people in dormitory beds. Meals include dinner and a full breakfast. The kitchen provides hot water for cup noodles and drinks. The hut sits in exposed terrain with excellent climbing access to peaks in the 3,600–4,000m range, including Bishorn (4,154m), Breithorn (4,164m), and Weisshorn (4,505m). Winter ascents and ski mountaineering are popular. Facilities are basic: composting toilet, cold running water, no shower.
Book directly with the hut, especially for weekends in July and August when capacity fills 8 to 10 weeks ahead. Solo climbers can often find space on short notice. The hut closes occasionally for maintenance; verify opening dates before travel. The wardens change seasonally, so email is more reliable than phone. Bring a sleeping bag—it's mandatory. Winter guests should book at least 4 weeks ahead and confirm avalanche conditions.
